Taking into account the seismic risk in nuclear installations

If the seismicity on the French country is low in the most of areas, it exists a permanent seismic activity around the Mediterranean basin. It is logical to wonder about the way whom the phenomenon is taken into account on the nuclear industrial sites or on the Research centers. The seismic risk is managed according to the principle of deep defense, by use of barriers successively calculated to resist to the reference seism and that go against the transfer of radioactive matters. Simultaneously, one searches the means to reduce the consequences as it is reasonably possible to conceive them (ALARA approach). (N.C.)
