Description
The article reviews the environments surrounding the process of increasing acceptance for nuclear power as one of the available alternatives to mitigate the effects of greenhouse gases emission and facilitate compliance with Kyoto Treaty goals. It discusses also the value of nuclear power to meet the base load requirements to meet growing electric demand while maintaining grid stability. Mention is made of the progress in DOE 2010 Program, as well in regard to design Certification of GE's advanced passive reactor ESBWR and its possible application to specific projects, as for the operation and construction progress of the ABWR. Both designs are perfectly applicable to possible European projects. (Author)
