Effect of isothermal annealing time on the magnetic properties of Fe-based nanocrystalline alloy
- 1. Magnetic Materials Divisiion, Atomic Energy Centre, Dhaka (Bangladesh)
Description
Structural and magnetic properties of Fe73Cu1Nb3.5Si14B8.5 soft magnetic alloys obtained by rapidly solidified technique and subsequently isothermally annealed at 5500C for various time periods have been studied by x-ray diffraction, magnetization and complex permeability measurements. The microstructures of the annealed samples are characterized as solid solutions of bcc Fe(Si) crystallites with grain sizes D=11-13 nm. Silicon contents in the nanocrystalline phases determined from the lattice parameter are 18 to 22 At.%. An enhancement of magnetic permeability of around two orders of magnitude and substantial reduction of magnetic losses has been observed in annealed samples. Optimum soft magnetic properties are obtained for the sample annealed at 5500C for 10 minutes. The results are explained on the basis of Random Anisotropy Model supplemented by the term of magneto elastic energy and inter-granular magnetic coupling. (author)
