Preliminary processing of gamma spectra using a computer

Description
The algorithm of primary calculation of gamma spectra, which is a concrete realization of one of the stages of computerized processsing of data of neutron activation analysis is described. The algorithm suggested makes it possible to determine the position of photopeaks in the gamma spectrum, analyze their structure (simple and complex), and calculate the photopeak area. The algorithm is realized in the Alpha langauage. The total processing time for one spectrum of 2000 channel length (reading the spectrum and program from a magnetic tape, calculating and printing the results) on an M-222 computer is 1-2 minutes (without delivery to the plotter). A procedure was worked out for a certain computer: for automatic search of photopeaks, analysis of photopeak structure, and constructing a pedestal under the peak, and also for calculating the area of single peaks
