Description
The UCD is an industrial-scale alpha waste decontamination facility. A first line was commissioned in February 1997, dedicated to the treatment of plastic and metallic waste. The installation is designed to treat 'PuO2 box' type metallic boxes in automatic mode, for which the achievement of contractual capacities was demonstrated in inactive conditions. But its versatility also enables it to handle miscellaneous metal and plastic waste. And this is how it has been operated so far. It carries out the in-line treatment of the alpha waste produced by the UP2 800 plant, and absorbs the stock of waste which had been produced by UP2 400. (author)
