Description

The achievement of nuclear fusion for industrial energy production is only possible if the reacting nuclei have a thermonuclear temperature at least equal to 108 deg K. The experimental work follows mainly two lines: the first one consists of irradiating a small dense pellet by giant laser pulses to that nuclear reactions take place significantly before the matter be dispersed. Another possibility relies upon the concept of magnetic trap where the thermonuclear temperature could be maintained by the energy released by the nuclear reactions

Abstract (French)

La mise en oeuvre industrielle des reactions de fusion nucleaire des isotopes de l'hydrogene n'est possible que si ces noyaux ont une temperature thermonucleaire d'au moins 108 deg K. Deux voies principales sont actuellement explorees: un premier schema vise a realiser une mini bombe H, en irradiant par des impulsions laser geantes une petite bille solide d'un melange deuterium-tritium. L'autre possibilite est de realiser un piege magnetique qui isole les noyaux reagissants de l'environnement, et ou la temperature thermonucleaire est entretenue par les reacteurs de fusion
