Synthesis, structure and reactivity of mixed-ring uranium(III) complexes

  • 1. Los Alamos National Lab., NM (United States)

Description

(C5R5)UI2(THF)3 (R = Me, H) reacts with K2C8H7R (R = TMS, H) to yield the mixed-ring complexes (C5R5) (C8H7R)U(THF). These species will coordinate other neutral Lewis bases, such as 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-dipyridyl and Ph3PO. The spectroscopic and structural characterization of these compounds is described. Products obtained from oxidation reactions of (C5Me5) (C8H8)U(THF) are also discussed, such as [(C5Me5) (C8H8)UI]x, which can be prepared by reaction of (C5Me5) (C8H8)U(THF) with trimethylsilyliodide or I2. This complex crystallizes as an infinite chain with uranium centers bridged by iodide anions
