Fluctuations of the analyzing power and the cross section in the nuclear reactions with vector 1/2+JΛ1 → JΛ2+JΛ3 spin structure

Description

On the basis of statistical description of the fluctuating part of the S matrix, fluctuations of the differenitial analyzing power and the differential cross section are investigated in nuclear reactions of 1/2 vector+J1→J2+J3 type in the region of strong overlapping the resonance levels. It is shown that a combined study of the analyzing power and the cross section makes it possible to separate contributions from the direct and compound nucleus mechanisms to the reaction cross section, determine spins of the nuclear levels and polarization of the incident beam. The study of the statistical correlation between the analyzing power and the cross section has been performed, basing on the functions of their joint probability distribution. The larges is the contribution from direct processes to the reaction cross section, the stronger is the correlation, and it disappears for purely statist;cal interaction mechanism. The effect due to the statisitical correlation enables one to test the basic concepts of the fluctuational theory of nyuclear cross sections, as well as to reveal the intermediate structure in the reaction. The results are used in the analysis of inelastic scatter;ng of polarized protons on 28Si. The copmar;son with the experiment confirms the existence of a statist;cal correlation between fluctuations of the analyzing power and the cross section
