Oxidation of silicide coatings on niobium and its alloys VH-2 and VH-3
- 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Fizicheskoj Khimii
Description
The oxidation of the silicized niobium alloys VN-2 and VN-3 in air at 1200-14000C is considered, especially as regards the kinetic oxidation relationships and the composition and properties of the oxide layers. An oxidation mechanism describing the transition of the protective stage of oxidation into a nonprotective stage is proposed. This transition is caused by a change in the composition of the coating under the oxide layer. The role of microcracks in the oxidation process is described
