Contact melting in binary metallic systems forming chemical compounds

  • 1. Dagestanskij Gosudarstvennyj Pedagogicheskij Inst., Makhachkala (USSR)

Description

Contact melting in binary metal systems forming chemical compounds at different rates of heating sample contacts has been investigated. The systems pure substance-pure substance (Cd-Sb and Cu-Sb) and chemical compound-pure substance (Cu2Te-Te, InSb-Sb and Cu2Sb-Sb) are studied. Contact melting at temperatures below the melting points of the lowest eutectics is detected. A decrease in the contact melting temperature is explained by the formation and melting of fusible metastable phases which are not indicated on stable phase diagrams
