The electricity supply industry in Pakistan
Description
The electricity supply industry plays an important part in the economic development of Pakistan. The installed power has increased from 113 MW in the year 1947 to 2532 MW in the year 1974/75. In spite of this steep rise the annual power supply per head of the population at about 140 kWh is one of the lowest in the world. In order to meet the increasing demand for electricity in the future it is necessary in Pakistan, besides developing hydroelectric and thermal power stations, to push on the construction of nuclear stations, because of the lack of conventional fuels. Abstract (German)
Die Elektrizitaetswirtschaft spielt fuer die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung Pakistans eine grosse Rolle. Die installierte Leistung erhoehte sich von 113 MW im Jahre 1947 auf 2532 MW im Jahre 1974/75. Trotz dieses hohen Anstiegs ist die jaehrliche Stromerzeugung je Kopf der Bevoelkerung mit rd. 140 kWh immer noch eine der niedrigsten in der Welt. Um den steigenden Bedarf an elektrischer Energie in Zukunft zu decken, muss man in Pakistan zusaetzlich zum Ausbau der Wasser- und Waermekraftwerke den Ausbau der Kernenergie wegen des Mangels von konventionellen Energietraegern vorantreiben.
