Description
The determination of the σ-term from πN scattering is critically examined. The currently available data indicate σ ≅ 45 MeV. Low-energy precision meausrements are needed to clarify discrepancies in experimental data and to reduce the uncertainty in the strangeness content for which we obtain y ≅ 0.2. (orig.)
