The value of digital subtraction angiography for the evaluation of peripheral arteriovenous shunts in patients with haemodialysis

Description
Direct and indirect examination of arteriovenous shunts was performed in 50 patients undergoing haemodialysis. The various methods of puncture of the vessels, the indications and the limitations of DSA are considered. The advantages of direct puncture of the arteriovenous shunt are emphasised. Puncture of the venous branch is almost without risk and allows immediate diagnosis. Only in a very few cases it will be necessary to perform the risky puncture of the arterial branch or the time-consuming central venous injection of a bolus of the contrast medium. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Es wird ueber die direkte und indirekte Darstellung von peripheren arteriovenoesen Shunts mit Hilfe der DSA bei 50 dialysepflichtigen Patienten berichtet. Die anzuwendende Punktionsmethode, ihre Indikationen und Grenzen werden gewertet und die Vorteile der Direktpunktion des AV-Shunts hervorgehoben. Da die risikoarme Punktion des venoesen Schenkels fast immer eine sofortige Diagnose ermoeglicht, ist der problematische Zugang ueber den arteriellen Schenkel oder die aufwendigere zentralvenoese Bolusinjektion nur noch selten erforderlich.
