Nuclear Electronics. Proceedings of a Conference on Nuclear Electronics

Description

The science of electronics, which is playing a decisive role in the modern world, is particularly important in the development of the nuclear sciences, both in fundamental research on the structure of matter and in the production of power from fission. It is impractical, however, to deal with this vast and varied subject at one time. The Agency's first conference on the subject, at Belgrade in May 1961, was restricted to just a few aspects of nuclear electronics. The second conference, organized by the Agency in co-operation with the Indian Atomic Energy Commission and held at Bombay from 22 to 26 November 1965, was limited, for all practical purposes, to the use of nuclear electronics in reactor control and safety. The importance of this subject is self-evident, for the number of power reactors throughout the world is increasing every year and the economics of their operation depends just as much on optimum functioning as on improved safety. The Bombay conference, at which 48 papers were presented, was attended by a large number of participants, representing 12 countries and two international organizations. The main topics were power and neutron-flux measurements, reactor control, safety devices, and data processing to ensure optimum operation. The Proceedings, which contain both the texts and discussions of the papers presented, are of immediate interest to specialists in these fields and should form a valuable source of information
