Search for strange quark matter with the BNL-E864 spectrometer

  • 1. Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of California at Los Angeles, 405 Hilgard Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90095 (United States)

Description

The results of the charged strange quark matter search from central 11.6 A GeV/c Au+Pb collisions in experiment E864 at the BNL-AGS are presented. We have analysed the approximately 6 billion central interactions sampled during the 1995 run for positively and negatively charged strangelet candidates. The results of the 1995 analysis, in which our full calorimeter and high-mass trigger system were used, are nearly three orders of magnitude more sensitive than our 1994 results, and are the best and most model independent sensitivities at AGS energies.
