Description

Crystal structure and magnetism of U0.5Y0.5Cu2Si2 have been investigated by neutron powder diffraction in the temperature range from 4.2 to 293 K. From nuclear scattering, isotypism with the ThCr2Si2-type has been confirmed with a random distribution of U- and Y-atoms on the (2a) sites of the space group I4/mmm. Magnetic scattering at 4.2 K revealed a LSW-type of magnetic order with a wave vector k=(0, 0, 0.866). At 4.2 K the uranium atoms were found to carry a magnetic moment of 2.0(5) μB. (orig.)
