Studies of high energy p-barp collisions

Description

The thesis examines findings from high energy proton-antiproton collider experiments. The Standard Model of particle physics is investigated in the context of these experiments, and the production of new particles observed via their decay is described. Heavy quark production is considered through the production of unlike-sign lepton pairs, and methods for isolating several dilepton production mechanisms are given. The possibility of observing a fourth generation heavy lepton via W decay is explored. Finally, the monojet events found by the UAl experiment are reviewed, and various extensions of the Standard Model are discussed as possible explanations of these events. (UK)
