The Electron source with three electrodes using NEC accelerator tube for EBM-latex of 300 KV/20 mA

Description

This paper deals with the results of the design, construction, and characterization of the electron source (ES) with three electrodes for electron beam machines (EBM) of latex process by utilizing accelerator tube of NEC (national electric cooperation) as chamber and electrodes of the electron source. The method used is to design the flange for placing filament, Pierce cathode and the focusing anode isolated to the cathode. The flange is loaded to the NEC accelerator tube where two of its electrodes have been previously released thus forming a three electrode ES of Pierce type. Trajectory shape of electron beam on the accelerator tube is simulated by using OPERA-3D computer program for variation parameters such as filament position relative to the Pierce cathode hole edge of 3; 1.5; -1.5; and -2.5 mm using 1 tube accelerator. Then simulation was continued for voltage difference variation of the cathode and anode of 5, 10, and 15 kV using two accelerator tubes. Furthermore, the ES construction and characterization of the beam profile and the electron beam current output have been done. The investigation results show that at the filament position -2.5 mm and at 15 kV voltage difference of cathode and focusing anode it produces an electron beam trajectory at least divergent, the beam propagates parallel to the axially axis of the accelerating tube. Electron beam profile is strongly influenced by focusing anode voltage. The electron beam output is strongly influenced by anode extraction voltage with the largest yield was 50 mA. This home made ES meets the specifications required for the EBM for latex process. (author)
