Disposal facilities on land for low and intermediate level radioactive wastes: guidance on requirements for authorisation (Radioactive Substances Act 1993)
Description
The Radioactive Substances Act 1993 (RSA 93) provides the framework for controlling the creation and disposal of radioactive wastes so as to protect the public from hazards which may arise from their disposal to the environment. RSA 93 imposes requirements for registration of the use of radioactive materials and for authorisation of accumulation or disposal of radioactive wastes. This document is concerned with the regulation of the disposal of low level and intermediate level solid radioactive wastes to specialised land-based facilities. The operator of such a facility is required to apply for authorisation under Section 13 of the Act. (author)
