NRC now wants new data on all Thermo-Lag 330-1

In December the Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff told power plant licensees to submit more information on their use of Thermo-Lag 330-1, a fire barrier material manufactured by Thermal Science, Inc. This time the agency wants to know how well any form or configuration of the material works, and whether the protection extends to assuring that shielded wiring retains its ability to carry its rated current. Regulations require that safe-shutdown systems be independent of one another, so the failure of one would not preclude the operation of another. This extends to the wiring that would carry signals governing the shutdown process
