Electronic band structure calculation and luminescence properties of NaGd(WO4)2

  • 1. Technical Physics Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Single crystals of NaGd(WO4)2 are grown by the Czochralski technique. The grown crystals were transparent, colorless and crack-free in appearance. The luminescence properties of NGW crystal were found to be strongly dependent on the growth ambient. The crystal grown in an inert ambient with slight oxygen partial pressure showed the best luminescence properties. The role of Gd level in luminescence process was found experimentally and was confirmed theoretically by ab-initio band structure calculations. (author)
