Relationship between cell transformation and DNA strand breaks induced by α-radiation

Description
Objective: To investigate the quantitative relationship between HEL-9402 cell transformation and DNA strand breaks induced by α-particles. Methods: Nick translation assay was used to detect the level of DNA strand break. Cloning formation efficiencies in soft agar were used to evaluate cell transformation. Results: Level of DNA strand break and cloning formation efficiencies in soft agar increased obviously after HEL-9402 cells were irradiated by 0.25-5 Gy of α-particles, and there were statistical relationships between DNA strand breaks and cell transformation of irradiated HEL-9402. Conclusion: DNA damages are closely related to α particle irradiation-induced carcinogenesis
