Effect of copper coating on the Kapitza resistance at the Nb-HeII interface

  • 1. Services Techniques, Inst. de Physique Nucleaire, Paris-11 Univ., 91 - Orsay (France)

Description

The superconducting radiofrequency cavities will be stiffened by means of a copper layer plasma sprayed onto the niobium wall. An experiment was performed to study the effect of such copper layer on the thermal resistance between the niobium and the cooling medium (superfluid helium). The first results show an increase of this thermal resistance by 16 to 34 % when the copper layer is added. (authors)
