Standard molar enthalpy of formation of TbPO4(s) using solution calorimeter

  • 1. Product Development Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Monazite, LnPO4 (Ln = La-Tb) is a promising waste form for immobilization of trivalent actinides such as PuIII, AmIII and CmIII with loading of actinides up to 25 wt%. The crystalline monazite ceramics are resistance to radiation damage and stable in aqueous medium. Hence, it can be used as matrix to store long lived minor actinides. Evaluation of the long-term stability and reactivity of rare-earth phosphates with environments requires determination of their thermodynamic properties. In continuation with our earlier work program to measure thermodynamic data of rare-earth phosphates at 298.15 K using isoperibol solution calorimeter we have measured the enthalpy of formation of TbPO4(s) in this study
