Proposal of a calculation methodology for the preliminary design of a coalescing filter

Description
Coalescing filters are described which are equipments for capture and recovery of mist most efficient, inexpensive and have fewer limitations of application. The operation, equations and ideal characteristics of filter media of these models are explained. A methodology for design and scale-up of this type of equipment for liquid recovery in gaseous currents is proposed from experimental tests, in order to guide the interested reader in its making. Los filtros coalescentes son descritos como uno de los equipos para la captura y recuperacion de niebla mas eficientes, de bajo costo operativo y con menores limitaciones de aplicacion. El funcionamiento, las ecuaciones y las caracteristicas ideales del medio filtrante de estos modelos son explicadas. Una metodologia para el diseno y escalamiento de este tipo de equipos de recuperacion de liquidos en corrientes gaseosas es propuesta a partir de pruebas experimentales, con el fin de guiar al lector interesado en su construccion.
