Description
Ionizing radiations have been used since the early days of this century to destroy tumors. This paper reports on different kinds of radiations that are used in radiotherapy: x-rays produced by energetic electrons, electrons, fast neutrons, pions and positive ions. Those radiations are briefly compared considering the dose distribution in the patient body and the advantages of a high Linear Energy Transfer (LET). Then, different kinds of accelerators used in radiotherapy are briefly reviewed, with emphasis on new developments
