Ultrasonic measurement process of the ratio volume of gas in an enclosure containing a gas-liquid mixture to the total volume of the enclosure
Description
Ultrasonic waves with two different frequencies are sent through the fluid in the containment. Time of propagation are measured and the difference is calculated. If propagation times are identical the gas phase forms a layer on the top of the liquid phase and void fraction is determined from propagation speeds in the gas and in the liquid. If propagation times are different, part of the gas forms bubbles and void fraction is the sum of gas on top of the liquid and gas bubbles in the liquid determined separatly. Void fraction coming from the gas over the liquid is determined by waves reflected at the interface gas-liquid. Void fraction coming from the bubbles is determined by relations between the speed of ultrasonic waves and their frequency as a function of pressure and void fraction

On provoque la propagation d'ondes a des frequences differentes, a travers le fluide remplissant l'enceinte. On mesure les temps de propagation des ondes et on calcule la difference entre ces temps de propagation. Si les temps de propagation sont identiques, on en deduit que tout le gaz est sous forme d'une couche surmontant le liquide. On determine le taux de vide a partir des vitesses de propagation des ultrasons dans le gaz et le liquide et du temps de propagation mesure. Si les temps de propagation sont differents, une partie du gaz est sous forme de bulles dans la vapeur, on determine separement le taux de vide du au gaz surmontant le liquide et le taux de vide du aux bulles de gaz dans le liquide. On determine le taux de vide total par addition des deux valeurs obtenues. Le taux de vide du au gaz surmontant le liquide peut etre determine grace aux ondes reflechies par l'interface gaz-liquide.
