Quality control in diagnostic radiology

  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Div. of Radiological Protection

Description

Quality of an image in diagnostic radiology is dependent on quality of materials and equipment; and quality of work practice and proper use of available equipment. The last two factors are again dependent on the quality of training and experience of radiological personnel. While obtaining images of high quality, ICRP recommendations which, when implemented, result into minimum patient exposure, must be followed. The Division of Radiation Protection (DRP) of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre is responsible for maintaining the standards stipulated by ICRP in X-ray departments in India. DRP discharges this responsibility by carrying out radiological surveys of X-ray departments as to work practices, equipment parameters, and materials evaluation. DRP makes recommendation for improvement. (M.G.B.)
