Intervention principle for protection of the public in the event of a nuclear accident

Description
In the event of a nuclear accident or radiological emergency, especially in a serious accident with radioactive releases to off-site, there is a need for a common emergency intervention principle to coordinate emergency responses of the public. If ther is not a common intervention principle, it may cause confusions in response actions in a nuclear accident. To solve the problem, IAEA convened a advisory group meeting on principles for establishing intervention levels for the protection of the public in the event of a nuclear accident or radiological emergency in Vienna, on 21-25 November 1988. This paper presents the results of the discusion during the meeting and the difference between the intervention principle and the dose limitation system
