Risk-based approach on nuclear installation Structures, Systems and Components (SSC) seismic design

Description

Indonesian National Standard (SNI) regarding planing procedure of earthquake design for structural and non structural building is beyond the scope of nuclear installation such as NPP. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the need of regulations and standards regarding the criteria for seismic design of nuclear installation in Indonesia since Indonesia is located in the tectonically active with high earthquake activity, while some regulations and standards that already exist are not specifically discuss the seismic design of nuclear installations. The methodology used in this paper is a literature review of several national and international standards related to structures, systems and components. Result of this analysis is that risk-based approach on seismic design category (SDC) for SSC seismic design could be adopted as necessary. This SDC is based on graded approach as implemented on Target Performance Goal method that could be referred on either design or evaluation of nuclear installation development in Indonesia. (author)
