Dynamics of protons of coiling current in time of magnetic storm on January 25, 1974
Creators
Description
An analysis is made of the data from the ''Molniya 1'' satellite on differential fluxes of protons with Esub(p)= 31/92, 67/122 and 182/377 keV obtained during the moderate geomagnetic storm on 25.1 1974. It has been discovered that the zone of radiation belts is divided into two areas: the internal one, where E0 approximately L-3, and the external one, where E0(L) approximately const (E0 - average energy of the differential spectrum). During the magnetically-quiet time the boundary between these areas lies at L approxiximately 7, while in the course of geomagnetic disturbances it approaches the Earth. It has been pointed out that the mechanisms that lead to the longitude asymmetry of circular current have been fundamentally different in the internal and external portions: the longitude asymmetry of the external portion of circular current has been stipulated by the intensification of the process of plasma convection in the course of substroms, and that of the internal portion (4 < or approximately L < or approximately 5.5) - by pouring out the low-energy protons into the atmosphere when they are drifted from the pre-midnight sector into the noon sector
