Molten salt reactors: reactor cores

Description

In this critical analysis of the MSBR I project are examined the problems concerning the reactor core. Advantages of breeding depend essentially upon solutions to technological problems like continuous reprocessing or graphite behavior under neutron irradiation. Graphite deformation, moderator unloading, control rods and core instrumentation require more studies. Neutronics of the core, influence of core geometry and salt composition, fuel evolution, and thermohydraulics are reviewed

Abstract (French)

Dans cette analyse critique du projet MSBR I on examine les problemes du coeur du reacteur. Les avantages de la surgeneration dependent essentiellement des solutions apportees aux problemes technologiques comme le retraitement du combustible en continu ou la tenue du graphite sous irradiation par des neutrons rapides. Davantage d'etudes sont necessaires en ce qui concerne la deformation du graphite, le dechargement du moderateur les barres de controle et l'instrumentation. On passe en revue les etudes neutroniques l'influence de la geometrie du coeur et de la composition du sel, l'evolution du combustible et la thermohydraulique
