Central interim storage for radioactive wastes in Wuerenlingen

Creators

  • 1. ZWILAG, Baden (Switzerland)

Description

The technical concepts for the conditioning and long-term interim storage of radioactive waste have been extensively set up and tested. In the interim store of the Swiss nuclear power stations on the land of PSI in Wuerenlingen, plants for the combusting, melting, compacting and decontaminating of low level radioactive waste from nuclear power stations, research, industry and medicine are to erect. This includes the storage buildings for high, medium and low-level radioactive waste which serve as interim stores until the journey to the final store of Nagra. The currently on-going approval procedure should be concluded at the start of 1995. Commissioning of the entire installation is planned for the end of 1997. 5 figs., 2 refs
