Off-site radiological dose assessment due to the operation of fuel test loop (FTL)
Description
The Fuel Test Loop (FTL) is being designed for additional installation in the HANARO reactor core. The new recommendation of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP-60) has been introduced to domestic regulatory laws since 1998. As the FTL is planned to additional installation in the HANARO, it is necessary to review or re-evaluation the environmental impacts. In this report, off-site radiological doses due to the operation of the HANARO facilities including the FTL were evaluated using the appropriate methods which are in compliance with domestic regulatory laws. The effective dose for maximum exposed individual was 3.44 x 10-2 mSv/yr. When considering the operation of all nuclear facilities located in Daeduk site, it was 3.47 x 10-2 mSv/yr which corresponds to 3.47% of the public dose limit 1 mSv/yr. The evaluated results met the design standards which are presented in the Ministry of Science and Technology's (MOST's) Notice 2002-23. Moreover, it was identified that the predicted air concentrations are far less than the effluent concentration limits. Collective dose within 80 km from the HANARO was 1.38 x 10-1 man-Sv/yr. It means that the average dose of the public is approximately 2.39 x 10-5 mSv/yr and it is neglectable compared with the average dose of the public all over the world due to the natural radiation background. Thus, although the FTL is installed in the existing HANARO facilities, the radiation health detriment for residents would be neglectable
