iron and S+S concrete albedos for thermal neutrons
Description
The aim of the sphere experiments is to evaluate the albedos of materials used in the protection of piles for neutrons of various energies. Up to now, these experiments have been carried out to estimate the albedo for thermal neutrons of S + S concrete in great thickness, as well as a 2 cm layer of iron blade against the previous concrete. The aim of the present study is to relate these experiments to the monoenergetic albedo calculation formalisms currently in use, by making appropriate adjustments to the effective cross-sections, the estimation of which is often affected by uncertainties, particularly in composite materials. After reviewing the results of scattering experiments inside a sphere, the authors describe the formalisms adopted for calculating albedos in thermal neutrons. Abstract (French)
Les experiences sphere ont pour but d'evaluer les albedos de materiaux utilises dans la protection des piles pour des neutrons de diverses energies. Ces experiences ont jusqu'a present ete realisees en vue de l'estimation de l'albedo pour les neutrons thermiques du beton S + S en grande epaisseur, ainsi que d'une lame de fer de 2 cm adossee au beton precedent. L'objet de la presente etude est de raccorder ces experiences aux formalismes monoenergetiques de calcul de l'albedo utilises actuellement, en ajustant convenablement les sections efficaces dont l'estimation est souvent entachee d'incertitudes, en particulier dans les materiaux composites. Apres avoir rappele les resultats des experiences de diffusion a l'interieur d'une sphere, les auteurs decrivent les formalismes adoptes pour le calcul des albedos en neutrons thermiques.
