Description

This historical survey begins with a brief explanation of the present ranking of X-ray radiology in the context of developments in the medical field. The following chapters are tracing back the history of X-ray applications for diagnostic evaluation, starting with the medical aspects and the imaging of the skeleton, lungs and soft tissue which then were in the center of interests, continuing with the application of contrast media for imaging the various organs, concluding with the modern tomographic techniques applying X-rays for imaging. One chapter focuses on the technical developments involved, and a comprehensive epilogue concludes the book

Abstract (German)

Nach einer kurzen Ortsbestimmung der Roentgenologie innerhalb der gesamtmedizinischen Entwicklung folgt den Anfaengen der Roentgenologie die Diagnostik von Skelett, Lungen und Weichteilen, die zunaechst das Hauptinteresse erweckten. In weiteren Kapiteln werden die Kontrastmitteluntersuchungen fuer die verschiedenen Organe sowie Schnittbildverfahren, soweit Roentgenstrahlen fuer die Bilderzeugung benutzt werden, abgehandelt. Ein historischer Abriss der Roentgentechnik und ein umfassender Epilog schliessen das Buch ab. (orig.)
