Sympathicoblastoma in adults

Description

The article reports on 61-year old female patient with symphaticoblastoma. This disease is seen in only 0.5-6.5% adults. 60-70% of the patients are less than 5 years old, whereas about 20-30% are younger than 20 years of age. 75% of the tumors are metabolically active with increased excretion of catechol amine metabolites. Detailed X-ray examinations must be made besides laboratory tests. Treatment can be effected by surgery, radiotherapy and pharmacotherapy. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Es wird ueber eine 61jaehrige Patientin mit einem Sympathikoblastom berichtet. Dieses Krankheitsbild wird in nur 0,5-6,5% beim Erwachsenen beobachtet. 60-70% der Erkrankten sind juenger als 5 und etwa 20-30% juenger als 20 Jahre. 75% der Tumoren sind stoffwechselaktiv mit erhoehter Ausscheidung von Katecholaminmetaboliten. Neben den Laboruntersuchungen muss ein ausfuehrlicher Roentgenstatus erhoben werden. Therapeutisch stehen Operation, Bestrahlung und Chemotherapie zur Verfuegung. (orig.)
