Simulation of the optimal price in the case of crude oil

  • 1. San Francisco Univ., CA (United States)
  • 2. California State Univ., Fullerton, CA (United States)

Description

The optimal price trajectory of the exhaustible resources using the traditional Hotelling class of models yields a persistently rising trend. Other types of price trajectories can be obtained by using models which incorporate both production and exploration aspects. In this paper, a different version of such dynamic optimization models is simulated. In addition, a price trend for crude oil until the year 2020 is simulated and its implications are discussed
