MAPLE facilities for national nuclear programs
Description
Atomic Energy of Canada Limited is developing the MAPLE research reactor to meet the many practical requirements of comtemporary national nuclear programs. The basic MAPLE variant is a D20-reflected, H20-cooled and -moderated pool-type reactor that efficiently produces tailored neutron fluxes at a variety of irradiated facilities. It can operate at thermal power outputs of 1 to 14 MW to suit applications ranging from radioisotope production to materials analysis and small-scale materials testing, to utilization of extracted neutron beams. A 10-MW prototype is now under construction at the Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories
