Stress Analysis of the KSH-Particle and of Dragon Particles Irradiated in the Dounreay Fast Reactor
Description
The second version of the Walther Stress Model which can deal with breakage of one or more layers of a coated particle was applied. Calculation results axe given for the KSE particle in the Geesthacht II reactor. A parametric survey was performed for this particle, the parameters varied were: kernel diameter and thickness of each coating layer. The influence of each parameter on lifetime of the particle was calculated. A stress calculation was performed for the Dragon particle which was irradiated in the Dounreay 2 Test. Some mechanisms which might have caused failure of the particle are revealed. (author)
