Behaviour of the thermic restoration of the interstitial agglomerate on the interval of 5 to 650 K in 5 K irradiated gold with electrons of 3 MeV

Description

Gold monocrystals have been irradiated on 5 K with 3 MeV electrons. Defects produced by the irradiation are interstitial agglomerations or interstitials fixed to the crystal impurities. The defects distribution corresponds to the end of the first stage of other metals, with the same crystal structure, thermal restoration. This paper shows the evaluation, by the X-ray diffuse diffraction, of the thermal restoration between 5K and 650 K and variations on the net parameter (Δa) and electric resistivity (Δρ). Between 5K and 200 K (Δa) and (Δρ) are smoothly and continuously recovered, after that the comportment have a abrupt shape, and is called III Stage. The intensity of the diffuse diffraction grows to 200 K as a consequence of the interstitial agglomerates growing. Between 200 K and 400 K the intensity of the diffraction decreases because of the interstitial agglomerations size decrease, as consequence of the vacancy actions. Those vacancy actions on that temperature interval have great mobility and could permit vacancy agglomerations formation. The total restoration of the defects was observed at 650 K
