Design and development of 200 kV, 80 MW repetitive pulse transformer for linear induction accelerator

Description

A 200 keV, 5 kA, 50 ns Linear Induction Accelerator is in the advanced stage of development at BARC for the generation of high power pulsed electron beam, flash X- ray radiography, and material processing applications. The accelerator will be operated in the burst-mode at 10-100 Hz pulse-repetition frequency. The accelerator compromises of a solid-state repetitive charging supply; two step-up pulse-transformers, four magnetic-switches for pulse-time compression and a three stage induction-cavity in the adder mode, along with intermediate energy storage devices, field-emission diode and other accessories. The voltage step-up is done in two stages, with a 2.5 kV/20 kV, 20μs, 20 MW (peak) pulse-transformer and then with 20 kV/200 kV, 5μs, 80 MW(peak) pulse-transformer.
