Evaluation of human prostate tumors in vivo with P-31 MR spectroscopy
Description
P-31 MR spectroscopy was performed on the solid human prostate adenocarcinoma PC-3 implanted intramurally into immunodeficient Balb/c nμ/nμ mice. Data were acquired using a 2.35-T magnet and surface coils designed to conform to the tumor. Spectra showed significant (P<.01) correlations of Pi/ATP, PME/ATP, PCr/ATP, and Pi/PCr concentration ratios with tumor volume. Fifteen tumors were irradiated to 20 Gy (n = 7) or 5 Gy (n = 8). After irradiation, significant (P<.05) decreases in pHnmr occurred, along with increases in Pi/ATP. An increase in PCr/ATP occurred 12-24 hours after irradiation, concurrently with renormalization of Pi/ATP. The time course of the changes appeared to be related to dose
