Description
The post-radiation reaction and radiation pathomorphism of carcinoma of the uterine cervix and surrounding normal tissues in 18 cases of planocellular carcinoma of the uterine cervix after 252Cf source irradiation and in 18 cases after 60Co source irradiation have been studied. The morphometric investigation by means of calculation of volume relation of stroma and parenchyma of the tumor with subsequent determination of arithmetic mean of each factor and index of injury in each of the above groups of patients and those under control have been performed. In the course of 60Co γ radiation as compared with 252Cf γ neutron radiation in the tumor region the granulation tissue torsus had a lesser thickness and a strongly pronounced giant-cellular reaction on the boundary of tumoral and surrounding normal tissues was observed. Larger complexes of tumoral cells survived after 60Co irradiation at deeply infiltrative forms of tumor growth as compared with 252Cf radiation occurred. In surrounding normal tissues the changes caused by both forms of radiation were of similar character but expressed in different degree. Index of injury in the tissue of planocellular carcinoma of the uterine cervix under high power γ-neutron radiation by 252Cf source constituted 96.5% and under 60Co γ radiation - 84%
