Electric trucks: why and how to accelerate their deployment. Carbon benefits and technical-economic feasibility

Description

By 2035, all new electric trucks will be less expensive to run, will be able to cover as many kilometers and carry as much freight as diesel trucks. Electric trucks are the most effective technology for decarbonizing the freight transport sector, which has been slow to make the transition from its almost exclusive reliance on diesel. T and E calls on the EU to put an end to the sale of thermal freight trucks as early as 2035 (2040 for non-freight uses), in order to respond effectively to the climate challenge and boost the industrial dynamic of conversion to zero-emission trucks. In France, the challenge is to plan ahead and put in place the necessary support mechanisms for a fair transition. 2023: a pivotal year?
