Description

It is proven that the reason for spontaneous lung cancer incidence among people not working in harmful conditions nor exposed to other carcinogenic factors is the indoor radon concentration. Taking account of the radon influence several international organizations, such as ICPP, IAEA, EC, UN, have systematized all the information in this field based on a great number of investigation results. The so called radon problem could be discussed in different aspects: radon concentration and exhalation in dwellings and underground sites (mines, tunnels); concentrations of naturally radioactive elements in building materials; risk and health effects for the population; engineering activities etc. Programs for students on radon exist in countries as USA, Germany, Canada, Czech Republic, Sweden etc. In Bulgaria there isn't such a program yet. The current paper treats the aim and the basic tasks on the state program as well as some of the main organizational problems that should be solved. The article suggests a discussion. (author)
