Application of albedo Monte Carlo method to FBR neutron streaming analysis

  • 1. Nippon Atomic Industry Group Co. Ltd., Kawasaki, Kanagawa. Nuclear Research Lab.

Description

Albedo Monte Carlo (AMC) code system MORSEALB has been developed to save the exhaustive computing time in Monte Carlo simulation. Energy-angle dependent differential albedo data for slab are generated by SLDN code based on invariant imbedding method or ANISN-T code. Applicability of the present AMC code to neutron streaming calculation is studied by analyzing the neutron streaming experiments at the YAYOI reactor of University of Tokyo and the SNR sodium duct mock-up experiments performed at the shielding irradiation facility EURACOS of EURATOM at Ispra. For YAYOI experiments, good agreement is obtained as a whole; the errors are at the magnitude within a factor of 2 for neutron spectra and within 40% for the Bonner ball counting rates. The analysis of SNR mock-up experiments clarifies that the present AMC method can predict the neutron streaming through a large scale sodium duct within a factor of 3. The present AMC code is applied to design study on an actual fast breeder reactor. (author)
