Method of manufacturing a lined fuel can for nuclear fuels

Description

Purpose: To enable measurement for the wall thickness of a linear tube over the entire length which forms an inner tube of a fuel can containing nuclear fuels in its inside by way of a non-destructive inspection. Constitution: A fuel can is fabricated by inserting a liner tube as an inner tube to the inside of a master tube as an outer tube, hot-extruding both of the thus composited tubes and extending the same uniformly by way of rolling or like other procedure, and metallurgically joining them to reduce the diameter down to a required tube diameter so that the final wall thickness at the liner portion is of about 10 % relative to the entire wall thickness of the fuel can. In this case, relatively short slit-like apertures elongated in the axial direction are formed as recesses in the liner tube at an appropriate distance prior to the fabrication and they are joined to the master tube. The wall thickness at each portion of the liner tube obtained in this way can be measured at a high accuracy over the entire length of the fuel can along the spiral scanning by way of ultrasonic thick measurement.
