Raman scattering from soft phonons in NdP5O14
Description
Raman spectra of NdP5O14 were recorded between 4.2 and 600 K and analyzed. The monoclinic-orthorhombic phase transition temperature was determined to be 420 K by measuring the energy of an Asub(g)-Bsub(2g) and a B sub(g)Bsub(3g) soft optic phonon mode as a function of temperature (symmetries refer to the monoclinic and orthorhombic phase, respectively). Coupling of these optic phonons to the soft acoustical phonon which is associated with the phase transition is discussed. (author)
