Use of thoron for air tightness control of film-made articles

Description
The method for inspecting the films and products thereof to detect the through microdefects is described. The method is based on the use of the radioactive inert thoron gas (86Rsub(n)220) with a short half-decay period (T=54.5 sec) which eliminates the effect of gas diffusion through the film and excludes the application of excessive gas pressure inside an item during the inspection. It has been shown that the high-sensitivity and radiation-safe commercial installations for controlling the tightness of the films and products thereof can be designed
